Keely is one of those girls that makes it all worth it.
Young Life leaders face a lot of insecurity: hoping more than one kids shows up to movie night; all the vulnerability, walking into a gym full of students and parents; all the exhaustion, running to Club* with a car full of supplies, dealing with locked doors and microphones that don't work, and then yelling, "Welcome!" when the first kid shows up 20 minutes early. It's worth it for those moments sitting with my friend Keely on a bench at camp talking about the deep things of life, laughing in the kitchen making pancake art, and answering her remarkable questions about the Bible.
Even if it's only for Keely--I wouldn't trade this life for the world.
When we met four years ago, we giggled, made friendship bracelets, and talked about Jesus for the first time. Now, I'm filling out her college recommendations, talking theology... and still making friendship bracelets. Best part is, graduation (for her) and moving across the world (for me) isn't the end. This is a friendship that will last.
Keely and shared some of our story for our area fundraiser this fall. I hope you enjoy this video and can be as encouraged as I have been on reflecting the joys and transformational power of intergenerational friendship rooted in the love of Jesus.
